Leadership Overview

SECTION TWO: What is Christian Leadership in the Church?

I. Overview
        Leadership can not be defined in a vacuum. 'Leadership for what?' This must be clarified    before any further discussion of it's meaning or activity can go on. This Sunday School Class is about 'Christian Leadership'.

 A. Objectives:
      -We will define Christian leadership.
      -We will examine and discuss the need for Christian leadership in the church.
      -We will examine and discuss  NT passages on  Christian leadership.
      -We will examine and discuss how Believers are to respond to the leaders in the church.
      -We will examine and discuss how leaders are chosen and developed in the church.
      -We will examine and explore the Characteristics of  leadership in the church.
      -We will examine and discuss the 'Bottom Line' of Christian Leadership: Servanthood.
      -We will examine and discuss the specific Biblical qualifications of leaders in the church.
      -We will examine and discuss the specific responsibilities of leadership in the church.
      -We will examine and discuss Christian leadership positions (?) in the church.
       -Pastor
       -Elder
       -Deacon
       -Trustee
      -We will examine and discuss the need for a 'plurality of Elders' in the church.
      -We will examine and discuss the role of women in Christian leadership.

B. Outcomes: As a result of this Adult Sunday School Class you should be able to:
     1. Understand why a study of Christian leadership is necessary.
     2. Identify and understand specific NT passages that deal with Christian Leadership.
     3. Identify and understand how Believers are to respond to leadership in the church.
     4. Define leadership as it applies to the church
     5. Identify and understand how leaders are chosen and developed.
     6. Identify and understand the characteristics of church leadership.
     7. Identify and understand the Biblical qualifications of those who lead in the church.
     8.. Identify and understand the responsibilities of those who lead in the church.
     9. Identify and understand leadership positions (?) in the church.
    10. Identify and understand the key issues in having a 'Plurality of Elders' in the church.
    11. Identify and understand key issues relating to the role of women in leadership.
    12. Begin to form your own NT theology of Christian Leadership.
