Week 5 Prayer
ILL: Someone once said 'Pray as though everything depended upon God; work as though everything depended upon you.
Question: What do you think that means?
Question: Does God really answer prayer? If God knows all things, why do we pray?
Question: What is prayer?
It is a conversation between God and His child. It is talking and listening. Prayer is not an escape hatch to get us out of trouble. It is not merely something to make life easy for us. We don't pray only when we are in trouble or when the future looks uncertain.
Question: Why do we pray?
-To have fellowship with God
-To stand in the gap for others: 1 Sam 12:23, Eph. 6:18
-To seek God's help
-To hear God's voice
-To partner with God in His work.
-John Wesley 'God will do nothing apart from the prayers of His
people'
-To effect the will of God: Matt. 6:10; 26:39; Rom. 8:26-27
