No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us. — 1 John 4:12
The Apostle John explains how people can “see” a God who is invisible in our verse. While we may never fully behold God's essence, His presence is not hidden from the world around us. Instead, what He has chosen to do is reveal His glory through you and me, who know Him as our Savior.
Think about how John describes that when we walk in habitual, self-sacrificial love for one another, two important things happen:
First, God Abides in Us: Our love for the body of Christ, His church, is the strongest sign that the Holy Spirit of God dwells within us permanently. We can't generate the “agape” love on our own; it naturally flows from His presence within us and our willingness to surrender to His guidance.
Second, His Love is Perfected: This isn’t about us becoming perfect or without flaws. Instead, it’s about how God’s love beautifully reaches its full purpose when it flows through us to others. His love isn’t meant to stay with us; it’s meant to be shared. When we share it, His love is truly ‘completed’ and fully expressed.
In a world eager to find evidence of the divine, our acts of kindness, forgiveness, and service serve as the gentle face of God that others can see and be inspired by. As the Psalmist beautifully expressed: “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.”— Psalm 40:3
So today, let your life sing for Him!
Heavenly Father, thank you so much for loving me first. I admit that sometimes I try to love on my own and fall short. Today, I invite Your Spirit to flow through me. Help me to love those around me so openly that they see a little of Your heart. May Your love be fully expressed in my life today. Amen.
Seeking to Demonstrate the Love He’s Given Me,
