When asked which profession they find noblest—one rooted in service—many people cite doctors or teachers. In the past, however, the role of a pastor often topped that list. Nowadays, this perception has shifted due to numerous scandals. Those who have distanced themselves from the church may have overlooked a crucial point: many of these individuals embodied the very warning the church has issued for centuries—wolves in sheep’s clothing. So, what does a wolf in sheep’s clothing appear and behave like? Quite like a sheep, until their true nature is revealed, leading to the destruction of a local church, which consequently impacts the universal church.
Ministry is not just for those who make a profession out of it. It represents God’s call and challenge for every Believer. Ministry involves daily actions in our workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities to glorify and honor God. I often reflect, as an imperfect individual, on how my words and actions are perceived by those around me. Today, let’s remember that Ministry occurs whenever someone, driven by Christ's Love, engages in acts of loving service for another.
The apostle Paul, writing to the Ephesian church in Chapter 6, wrote:
7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free.
As a follower of Jesus, nothing is more significant than genuine ministry. Every profession carries meaning when done with God’s love and “as to the Lord.”
No matter what challenges you encounter today, approach them as if you are serving the Lord Jesus Himself, because, in reality, you are!
Blessings on your faith journey,
Gene
