“So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.” — Acts 9:
It’s quite common to believe that the church only thrives during those uplifting "mountain top" moments or through energetic programs. However, Acts 9:31 offers us a gentle reminder of a different rhythm. After facing a time of great persecution, the early church experienced a peaceful and refreshing season, showing us that growth can happen even in quieter times.
This wasn't a time of spiritual laziness, though. The believers used that quiet to be "built up." They focused on two internal anchors:
The Fear of the Lord: This wasn't about being scared, but about having a deep, respectful admiration for God’s holiness that encouraged them to stay obedient and humble.
The Comfort of the Holy Spirit: They always felt the warm encouragement and guidance of the Spirit, which lovingly gave them the strength to keep moving forward.
The result? The church grew even more vibrant and strong. Their growth naturally reflected their deepened connection with God. When we take a moment to slow down and truly walk with God, His Spirit lovingly guides and expands our community.
Are you feeling like your spiritual life is in a stormy season or a peaceful one? Take a moment today to find ways to be genuinely "built up" in the Spirit and nurture your faith.
Lord, thank You for the peace and growth You pour into our lives amidst this busy world. Please guide us to walk with a deep reverence for Your holiness and to be continually strengthened by the comforting presence of Your Holy Spirit. Fill us today so that our lives may naturally reflect Your love to those around us. Amen.
Desiring His Peace and Growth,
Gene
