I heard of a sheriff who resolved to enforce stricter performance standards for his deputies. Each deputy had to requalify on the firing range, meeting more demanding criteria than before. The target was set five yards further away, and they had to fire twelve shots within eighteen seconds.
The day before the trial, a deputy received his first pair of trifocals. Preparing for his trial shoot, he focused on the target to steady his aim. Suddenly overwhelmed with nerves, he started to sweat heavily, causing his glasses to fog up. What could he do now? He recalled his old Navy instructor's advice: “If for some reason you ever lose sight of the target, just remember your position.” So, the deputy maintained his stance and pulled the trigger as quickly as possible. With less than eighteen seconds, he successfully fired all twelve shots within the time limit.
When he removed his glasses and wiped the fog from them, he realized he’d hit the bull’s-eye every time.
The reason I share this story is to remind you, my dear brothers and sisters in Christ, that there may be times when circumstances obscure our focus as Believers and make our goal seem unclear. If you find yourself in such a situation now or in the future, follow the example of the deputy and remember your position. As Believers, we are firmly anchored “in Christ.”
Each day presents us with a choice: how will I position myself to tackle the day's challenges? Will I confront these challenges with faith or frustration as I attempt to navigate my own way? As husbands, wives, and leaders, we need to remain focused on the understanding that when I yield to His guidance, nothing can derail me from the goal He has set for me…to be transformed into the image of Jesus. It's essential to remember that we are “Positioned” in Christ, so we cannot fail to see the path He has for us!
3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:3 ESV
Blessings on you journey,
Gene
