A crucial truth that a believer must understand comes from 2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is inspired by God and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be fully equipped for every good work.”
How many times have you tried drawing a straight line freehand? It might seem straight to you, but when checked against a ruler, it’s not. The line may look good by eye, but the ruler reveals its true crookedness. Using a ruler helps you see clearly what is truly straight and what isn't.
The Bible acts as our standard ruler. Something might appear correct or look right, but when we compare it to Scripture, it turns out to be crooked. In the passage above, we see the first seven words identify the Scripture’s source, God, and then Paul explains its value—it's profitable to keep us on the straight and narrow path. If we accept verse 16, and I do, then WE CAN TRUST IT!
The Bible serves as the ultimate guide for our faith and conduct. When uncertain about the truth of our actions or beliefs, we refer to it as our Standard. Hebrews 4:12 reminds us that God's Word is sharper than any double-edged sword, capable of judging our thoughts, attitudes, and hearts.
As you go about your day, remember you have a source that enables you to not only talk the talk but also walk the walk. It will uplift, correct, and guide us in the right path. Ultimately, it trains us in the way we should go.
Seeking to walk in the truth,
Gene
